Safety

Lledr Hall Outdoor Education Centre provides challenging learning experiences for young people and adults in an outdoor setting. By their nature some of the outdoor adventurous activities contain an element of real risk, without which they would be less valuable in terms of positive learning experiences, benefits and outcomes.

This balance of risk and benefit is closely monitored during our sessions to ensure real risk is properly managed so participants are safe while at the same time making sure they are having fun, learning and developing skills.

We have a staff meeting each morning when the planned programme is carefully considered. The discussions here focus on the previous day’s events, the weather, the activity venue, the level of activity, particular group management issues and any specific outcomes for the day. This meeting ensures that every activity is tailored towards the groups needs and each individual is catered for.

Safety is a priority when doing adventurous activities. Lledr Hall has an excellent safety record and has been inspected under the terms of The Activity Centres (Young Persons' Safety) Act 1995. We are licenced to provide the following activities:

  • Kayaking
  • Open-canoeing
  • Stand Up Paddleboarding
  • Improvised rafting
  • Gorge scrambling
  • Abseiling
  • Rock climbing
  • Hill walking
  • Mountaineering
  • Mine exploration

This licence is awarded by the Adventure Activities Licensing Authority (AALA) who carry out inspections on behalf of the Health & Safety Executive. To find out more details about what this license means visit the Licensing Authority’s website.

The Centre is staffed by qualified teachers who hold the relevant National Governing Body Awards for the activities they lead. In addition the staff undertake on-going training to keep up to date with current best practice.

Lledr Hall provides all the safety equipment for the activities. The equipment meets industry standard safety requirements and is subject to a rigorous inspection regime.

We are supported by Salford City Council’s Health and Safety team who annually inspect the Centre to ensure the buildings and supporting systems are compliant with all current legislation.
